Kirkwood Mountain Resort
Steep and deep – that’s what Kirkwood’s known for. Kirkwood has bragging rights as the deepest snow in Tahoe if not the country
with a 10 year average of 500 inches of annual snowfall. They also have the highest entry point of resorts in the Tahoe area with
a base elevation of 7,800. Kirkwood also plays host to the annual North American Freeride Championships culminating on the
legendary Cirque.
Kirkwood has eighty kilometers of groomed cross-country track as well as snowshoe trails. Summers are hopping at Kirkwood
with lift-accessed mountain biking, hiking, fishing, ropes course, rock climbing, and other activities.
Freeriding/ freeskiing abounds at Kirkwood with 65 trails accessed by 10 chairlifts. On powder days, the 2,300 acres provide
possibilities for hundreds of fresh tracks. Terrain parks at Kirkwood have developed significantly in the past few years. The parks
provide fun and challenge for all levels with Adventure Land, the Playground, and the Stomping Grounds.
Lessons are available for beginner through intermediate skiers and riders, as well as their Expedition: Kirkwood and Junior
Expedition Teams (for kids) programs for intermediate through expert technique refinement. The ski school runs out of the Timber Creek
base area.
